FINAL PICKS
After reviewing all the images, I selected a final set that best represents the style of my magazine. I included a wider range of photos to show variation in composition, angles and details. The images come from both photoshoots and combine clean, controlled shots with more dynamic ones. This gives me flexibility when creating different layouts. Each photo was chosen because it offers something slightly different, helping me avoid repetition and build a consistent visual set.

PHOTOSHOOT OUTCOME AND CONTACT SHEET
During the photoshoots, my focus gradually shifted from simply taking pictures to thinking about how each image would work inside a magazine. Instead of capturing random shots, I started paying more attention to composition and how the photos would fit into a layout. At the same time, I became more aware of my own process while shooting. Rather than taking photos quickly, I started adjusting my position, angles and framing more carefully to achieve a more balanced result. One

RISK ASSESSMENT
When planning my photoshoots, I had to consider several risks that could affect both the process and the final images, especially as I was working with high-end and collector cars in real locations. One of the main challenges was access and availability. Since I relied on museums and exhibitions, there was always the possibility that certain locations would be closed or that specific cars would not be available. This meant I had to adapt my plan depending on each situation. A

BUDGET AND CALENDAR
The photos for this project were taken over approximately four different days during a family trip across Europe. I planned in advance to visit key locations such as the Ferrari Museum in Maranello and the Geneva Motor Show, as these were directly relevant to my concept of a luxury, automotive-focused magazine. However, I also kept flexibility, as access to certain places was not always guaranteed. For example, I intended to visit the Prince’s Car Collection in Monaco, but

PHOTOSHOOT 2 – CONCEPT & PLANNING
Idea & Concept For my second photoshoot, I photographed a range of rare and high-end cars at the Geneva Motor Show , including models such as the Porsche 959, Lamborghini Vision GT, Aston Martin DB5, Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing and McLaren Speedtail. Unlike my first photoshoot, which was taken in a controlled museum environment, this shoot focuses on capturing cars in a real-world exhibition context , where there is less control over the surroundings. The concept of this shoot i

PHOTOSHOOT 1 – CONCEPT & PLANNING
Idea & Concept For my first photoshoot, I focused on capturing a range of Ferrari models in a controlled and high-end environment. The photos were taken at the Ferrari Museum, where I had access to multiple iconic cars, including models such as the Ferrari F40, LaFerrari, Enzo Ferrari and Daytona SP3. The concept of this photoshoot is based on luxury, heritage and automotive design as art. Instead of presenting the cars as fast machines, I wanted to highlight their form, mate

PLANNING – MAGAZINE BRANDING STYLE
This post is an overview of all the planning decisions made in the previous stages. It helps to create a clearer vision of my magazine and ensures consistency in terms of design, layout, and overall identity. Masthead The masthead I designed is minimalist, elegant, and strongly inspired by luxury branding. I explored several ideas before deciding on a final version, but I chose to keep the design clean and refined, as this better reflects the identity of the magazine. The t

PLANNING – EDITORIAL / ARTICLE
When analysing magazines, it becomes clear that the editorial or feature article is one of the most important sections, as it allows the magazine to communicate its identity, style, and values to the audience. Through the combination of layout, typography, and imagery, magazines are able to create a specific tone, whether that is minimal, luxurious, or dynamic. For my editorial, I decided to follow a luxury automotive magazine style, focusing on clean layouts, strong imagery,

PLANNING – FLAT PLANS & TEXT
Introduction In order to clearly visualise the structure and layout of my magazine, I created a series of flat plans for each key section: the cover, contents page, double-page spread and back cover. These sketches allowed me to experiment with composition, spacing and hierarchy before producing the final product. My overall intention is to maintain a minimal, clean and premium aesthetic, inspired by luxury automotive publications, where the image is dominant and the text is

PLANNING – LAYOUT & FONTS
INITIAL LAYOUT IDEAS After establishing the concept of my magazine, I started exploring how the layout should reflect the overall identity of the publication. I began with a few rough sketches to visualise the structure of: the cover page the contents page the double-page spread These sketches were not meant to be final designs, but rather a way to organise ideas and experiment with placement, spacing, and hierarchy. From these early drafts, I realised that my magazine should

PLANNING – TOPIC & CONCEPT
DEVELOPING THE CONCEPT After establishing the visual direction and genre of my magazine, I focused on defining a clear concept for my issue. Since my magazine is centred around luxury automotive design , I needed a concept that reflects both the exclusivity of the cars and the emotional value behind them. Instead of choosing a broad or abstract theme, I decided to focus on the idea of timelessness , particularly how certain cars go beyond trends and remain relevant through

RESEARCH – GENRE & MOODBOARD
THE CHOICE After analysing different types of magazines in my previous research, particularly Top Gear and the official Ferrari Magazine , I decided that my magazine will focus on the luxury automotive genre, more specifically on collector cars, classic vehicles and limited production models. From that analysis, I understood that different magazines approach the same subject in very different ways. While Top Gear targets a wider audience through a more dynamic and content-h

RESEARCH – AUDIENCE RESEARCH
Introduction In order to better understand my target audience, I created a questionnaire using Google Forms and collected over 100 responses. The aim was to explore reading habits, interests in cars, and preferences related to magazine design and pricing. This allowed me to gather both quantitative data and insights into how different audiences interact with print media. Demographics The results show that the majority of respondents were under 18 (around 40%), followed by sm

RESEARCH – MAGAZINE ANALYSIS
Introduction In order to better understand how professional magazines are structured, I analysed three different publications: Ferrari Magazine , Top Gear and AutoExpert . Each of them targets a slightly different audience and uses different design techniques, which helped me decide the direction for my own magazine. Ferrari Magazine Ferrari Magazine follows a very minimalist and premium design. The cover is extremely clean, using very little text and focusing almost entirel

RESEARCH – MAGAZINE CONVENTIONS
Before creating my own magazine, I researched the main conventions used in professional publications in order to understand how they are structured and how they communicate with their audience. I looked at automotive magazines such as Top Gear Magazine, Octane Magazine, Classic & Sports Car, and the official Ferrari Magazine. This research helped me identify the key elements that appear consistently across magazines, while also showing how they can be adapted depending on the

PLANNING – MASTHEAD
Choosing the name At the beginning of my planning process, I explored multiple name ideas in order to find something that reflects the identity of my magazine. Since my concept focuses on luxury and collector cars, I wanted a name that feels premium, elegant, and timeless. Some of the ideas I considered included: Aureum – inspired by the Latin word for gold, representing luxury and value Apex – suggesting the highest level or peak performance Obsidian – associated with a d

Initial Idea
Developing the Concept of My Magazine When I first started thinking about the concept of my magazine, I knew that I wanted to create something that truly represents my personal interests. One of my biggest passions is cars, especially luxury and rare vehicles. I have always enjoyed photographing cars, particularly when I see something unique on the street or at car events. Cars such as Ferraris, Aston Martins, Bentleys, Porsche models, Rolls-Royce vehicles or other high-end l

Preliminary Work
What I Decided to Create? For my preliminary work, I decided to create an album cover . Music is a major part of my everyday life, and I have always been curious about how album covers are designed: what they represent, how visual identity is constructed, and what process artists follow to create them. This smaller-scale task allows me to practice visual composition, digital editing, typography, and overall creative planning before starting my final AS coursework. Research Wh
